Oren Forgette, born on June 7, 2001, in Buffalo, New York, has proven himself a dedicated student and an engaged leader at SUNY Geneseo. Majoring in Applied Physics with a minor in Mathematics, his academic pursuits are matched by his commitment to community service and leadership, setting a standard for excellence and engagement.
While at City Honors High School, Oren excelled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and achieved his NY Regents Diploma in June 2019. His leadership qualities were evident as he served as co-captain of the rowing team, leading them in competitive events and instilling a spirit of determination and cooperation among his teammates.
Oren maintains a 3.0 GPA at SUNY Geneseo and is on track to graduate in May 2024. His university career has been marked by academic success and significant contributions to scientific research and student life.
In the summer of 2023, Oren participated in the NASA NY Space Grant, where he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Pellerin. This research enhanced RGB images of galaxies from data captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. The focus was on identifying planetary nebulae, a project that deepened his understanding of astrophysics and contributed valuable insights to the scientific community.
Oren's technical expertise was further demonstrated in a challenging project during the fall of 2023, where he developed a system using Labview to control two-stepping motors. This system was ingeniously designed to synchronize the movement of a toy car with a live-stream camera, a testament to his ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems effectively.
Aside from his academic and technical pursuits, Oren has shown exemplary leadership through his role as an Eagle Scout.
